The Dragon’s Grand Entrance

This personal illustration project was created to mark the transition from the Year of the Cat to the Year of the Dragon. Inspired by the playful and sometimes lazy nature of cats, the concept imagines a whimsical narrative set in a grand palace, where a group of tiny kittens must finally get their act together and clean up before the majestic Dragon arrives.

What began as a light-hearted mini series — featuring scenes of the cats half-heartedly tidying, causing even more mess — culminates in a final hand-drawn piece sized at 80 x 80 cm. In this artwork, the moment of the Dragon’s arrival is captured: regal, powerful, and awe-inspiring, as the tiny cats scatter, celebrate, and welcome the new energy with wide-eyed wonder.

The piece blends humor, tradition, and a sense of seasonal renewal — paying homage to the playful spirit of the Cat while ushering in the vibrant strength of the Dragon.
