To celebrate the arrival of the New Year 2020, we were commissioned by Ginkgo Concept to create a special illustration that captures the spirit of the Year of the Rat.
Rats are often seen as symbols of intelligence, wit, and adaptability. Living in groups and moving together, they are also believed to bring prosperity in many cultures. Inspired by these traits, we designed an artwork that radiates joy, energy, and a sense of togetherness—an uplifting tribute to the new year.
Our concept, The Rat’s Band, features five cheerful rats playing music in harmony. The number five represents the five elements—Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth—symbolizing balance and completeness. Music, universally tied to celebration, became the perfect expression of a fresh start.
This illustration captures a festive moment where rhythm, connection, and optimism come together to welcome a year of abundance and harmony.
